Finding Purpose in the Pain

“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” – Hebrews 4:15-16 NIV

My husband’s unexpected and sudden death left me feeling lost and overwhelmed. A piece of my soul felt ripped out from within me. As a young mother, I could not comprehend w

hat had just happened. Where was God in all this? Why did He allow this to happen? The pain I felt seemed to grab a hold of me, leaving me paralyzed. I had a strong faith, but I still began to doubt the promises of God for my life. My hopes and dreams were absolutely crushed.

The sorrow we experience is real and it changes us forever. The real question is how do we move past the pain to find purpose and healing despite the awful circumstances? How do we find hope again and not let our loss and pain dictate our life? The answer lies in the cross of Jesus. That day on Calvary seemed like Christianity’s darkest hour. Humanly speaking it appeared that evil had won and God lost control. The reality was that God was not only fully in control, but He was also orchestrating the biggest victory for humankind the universe would ever witness. The pain and suffering of Jesus became the means of salvation for an entire world!

God sees your suffering and it matters to Him. Yet, God can lift us above our suffering, restore hope, and bring an unbelievable purpose from our pain. A purpose so beautiful, that it will overshadow the circumstances we face. Jesus went through more heartbreak and sorrow than we will ever comprehend and because of that experience, He can stand as your High Priest to comfort you and show you a purpose bigger than your sorrow. He went thru every heartache so He can give you “mercy and grace in your time of need”.

When you don't have the answers and life feels hopeless, all you have to do is to look at the cross. When you examine its pages, you find a beauty beyond words and realize that God is still standing in control and He holds the key to standing through the toughest points in your life and bringing an incredible purpose out of your circumstance! Your hope will be restored.

Dear Jesus, You see my pain. I need Your power to stand through this. I am sorry for letting my sorrow take my eyes from Your word. I am choosing to believe in You by faith. Restore my hope and use this trial for Your purpose. Thank you for being my High Priest that saves me and fulfills the promises of God in my life.
